MAGS 2026 Fall Conference

Featuring Craig Roberts Scott, MA, CG, FUGA

Mr. Scott will present a series of lectures focused on the Revolutionary War. He will discuss researching Hessian soldiers, Germans and Loyalists who served in the war, plus a case study of a Revolutionary War ancestor. The event will be entirely virtual.

Researching a Hessian Soldier

Having an alleged German soldier during the Revolution can be an interesting conundrum. There are resources that can help in your determination, American and German.

A Revolutionary War Case Study

A Revolutionary War ancestor can be a goldmine of information if you know where to look. This lecture aims to examine types of service, compiled military service records, pension applications, settled accounts, and where other documents can be found using a step-by-step methodology in a case study.

German Units in the Revolutionary War

This lecture aims to examine the types of German organizations on both sides of the war, from militia and state troops to the Continental Line on the American side and the German Auxiliaries in the employ of the British or Loyalist units raised in North America.

Loyalists in the American Revolution

Approximately one-third of the people living in the Colonies at the time of the Revolution were loyal to the King. During the War some fought in Loyalist units. By the end of the war, most were forced to leave, either north to Canada or back across the ocean. Many filed claims with the British government for failing to protect them from the rebels. Learn about the records of their service and records of their time after the War.
